Much of my artistic motivation derives from the pure joy of working with art on paper, an enthusiasm that began 60 years ago with pen and ink drawings, making linoleum block prints, and with the intoxicating work of using purely mechanical film cameras and darkroom printing.
This selection of photographs, prints and drawings represents some of my interests: close-up examination; human landscapes; the surprising (charismatic, ironic, alarming) encounters between the plant world, the human world, and the realms of other animals. If there is a sub-text or an undertow to my images it may be their ability to serve as visual reminders that we are, at least for now, a species out of sync with other lifeforms. It is my hope that they also convey a love for the natural world and our tenuous and disruptive relationship to it.
